Weekend visits
By Chris Dokish
Midland (TX) CC forward Kavon Lytch visited Pittsburgh this weekend as the Panthers continue to try to use their final scholarship for the 2009-10 season. The 6'6" 240 pound Lytch is a Brooklyn native who has played at three different schools over the last three seasons. On Sunday, 6'6" 200 pound combo forward Kevin Parrom is scheduled to visit. Parrom, who originally signed with Xavier before being released from his scholarship following the departure of head coach coach Sean Miller, is a New York City native that played this past season at South Kent Prep in Connecticut.

Chris,
I would be disappointed if Pitt gets Lytch, he sounds like the type of stretch that doesn't work out. I know you think we should save our last ship but what do you think of adding Parrom? Are the chances he commits to Pitt high and do you like him as a player? I wouldn't mind saving the ship but at least Parrom is a legit top 100 guy unlike Lytch.
Not that it matters much, but good to see Irving list Pitt on the main page. Still don't see much chance in that one.
Parrom is a very good player. If I had to choose (and I don't), then I would rather use it for next season because I think they could use the scholarship to get an even better prospect. Parrom would obviously help a lot this season, however. But know this- if Parrom or Lytch become a Panther then there are no available scholarships left for next season. So somebody will have to leave if they want to add a Will Barton or somebody else. If it were up to me, I would not use it this year and maybe work the roster a little next year to get two scholarships.
I think it's okay to drop down one season if you can really come back even stronger next season. That's what I would do. But Dixon is trying to get the team as good as he can this season, but in doing so, it may make the team not as excellent beyond next year.
Saving it for next year assumes we can get a player better than Parrom for the 2010 class. I think its possible but I'm not confident. Barton and Lamb seem like longshots and players like Jason Morris, Trey Fairchild and Victor Oladipo don't really name us much. I see your point though. I would definitely not use the scholarship on a reach that would seem to be a waste. If you add a player like Lytch, then he isnt that good, but we can one of the aforementioned players want to come here then we basically have to force someone out. Whatever, I guess I should focus on my own problems and not Jamie Dixon's.
It's not so much as better than Parrom next year as much as it is a different position. I would prefer a shooting guard and a center for the team.
Same here, especially shooting guard. Pitt has never had an elite scoring guard.
Any word on how the visit went?
Going well. Pitt has a good shot.
