BEYOND THE ARC: UPDATE ON GARY MCGHEE
January 17, 2007
Last week we had the chance to catch up with coach Phil Spoljaric of Anderson-Highland HS, where his big man Gary McGhee is off to an outstanding start on his senior season. In their recent championship performance in the Madison County Tournament, McGhee led Highland to their first title with a 28-pt, 12-rebound, 6-block performance over in-town rival Anderson HS.
Currently averaging 20 PPG, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks a contest, Highland is 1-0 in their conference and 6-6 overall, playing a schedule ranked 23rd out of 398 teams in the state of Indiana. McGhee's season highlight was a 40-pt, 13-rebound performance vs Westfield earlier in the year.
Coach Spoljaric is very excited about the progress of his big man, "Gary has started to become more mentally tough and much stronger as the season has progressed." Coach Spoljaric continued, "He leads the state in blocked shots and is top 3 in rebounding. We are looking forward to building on our Madison County Championship win. Gary has continued to lead by example and has been a great captain of our team. We are now setting our sights on winning the conference for the first time since 2000-01."
We wish Coach Spoljaric and his Highland basketball team continued success in meeting their goals in the 2007 season!
