PITTSBURGH RECRUITING UPDATE

August 18, 2006

Once again, Panther Rants on the Blogger network updates Pitt's recruiting efforts as their Basketball Recruiting Heats Up. Really not much to add. with seniors Aaron Gray, Levon Kendall, Doyle Hudson and Antonio Graves, Pitt definitely needs to concentrate on some frontcourt players and they have a very impressive group of prospects at the PF and C position players that they are hitting up hard for September visits and decisions. Stay tuned...

In the Panther Rants blog, it mentioned Pitt being a finalist with Indiana and Wisconsin for 6'10 Gary McGhee. However, Wisconsin might be out of the mix as Madison Prep Star Keaton Nankivil Stays Close to Home (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) and chooses Wisconsin over Marquette. He was long expected to pull the trigger for Wisconsin, although Marquette stayed in the race to the end (with Boston College, too). The Golden Eagles will explore other avenues with their last remaining scholarship.

The regular Recruiting Buzz feature by the writers at Scout.com for FoxSports.com was updated yesterday and summarizes a couple Big East commitments (Trevor Mbakwe - Marquette and Carlton Scott - Notre Dame). Mike Sullivan also profiles the recruitment of Mike Scott who has Big East schools such as St. John's, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Seton Hall seriously involved and Pittsburgh has shown some interest as well. Scott originally signed last year with Temple and the Maryland native will spend a post-grad season at Hargrave Military Academy.
